For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.

For behold, this selfsame thing, that ye were made sorry after a godly sort, what earnest care it wrought in you, yea what clearing of yourselves, yea what indignation, yea what fear, yea what longing, yea what zeal, yea what avenging! In everything ye approved yourselves to be pure in the matter.

For see what results that other sorrow — sorrow in accordance with God’s will — has had in your case. What earnestness it produced! What explanations! What strong feeling! What alarm! What longing! What eagerness! What readiness to punish! You have proved yourselves altogether free from guilt in that matter.

Denn siehe, eben dieses, daß ihr Gott gemäß betrübt worden seid, wieviel Fleiß hat es bei euch bewirkt! Sogar Verantwortung, sogar Unwillen, sogar Furcht, sogar Sehnsucht, sogar Eifer, sogar Vergeltung. Ihr habt euch in allem erwiesen, daß ihr an der Sache rein seid.

Porque he aquí, esto mismo que según Dios fuisteis contristados, cuánta solicitud ha obrado en vosotros, y aun defensa, y aun enojo, y aun temor, y aun gran deseo, y aun celo, y aun vindicación. En todo os habéis mostrado limpios en el negocio.

Porque vede isto mesmo, quanto empenho que vossa tristeza segundo Deus produziu em vós! E também defesa própria , indignação, temor, saudades, zelo, e desejo de justiça! Em tudo vos mostrastes estar puros quanto a este assunto.

Vede quão grande determinação essa tristeza segundo Deus produziu em vós. Quão grande era a vossa determinação para provar vossa inocência. Quão grande era vossa indignação, temor, vontade, zelo, e desejo de ver a justiça sendo feita! Em tudo provastes ser inocentes nesse assunto.
