In seinen Tagen baute Hiel, der Betheliter, Jericho wieder auf. Mit Abiram, seinem Erstgeborenen, legte er ihren Grund, und mit Segub, seinem Jüngsten, stellte er ihre Tore auf, nach dem Worte Jehovas, das er durch Josua, den Sohn Nuns, geredet hatte.

Hiel lançou os alicerces da cidade ao custo da vida de Abirão, seu primogênito; e Segube, seu filho mais jovem, perdeu sua vida enquanto Hiel estava construindo os portões da cidade, de acordo com a palavra de Yahweh, pela qual Ele falou através de Josué, filho de Num.
